Low-budget indie games tend to be some of the most creative around, assuming they aren't just flipping assets poorly in Unity. Without the budget to dazzle the audience with beautiful graphics, they instead need to focus on something else to stand out. These restrictions can lead to some very creative premises. Let's look at Acrophile.

To install Acrophile, simply unzip the files inside the archive into any folder you want.

The plot is unsettling. You play as an assistant to a researcher that's investigating a mysterious island in the Atlantic Ocean. You find a tribe of blue-skinned humans who can somehow speak perfect English. They are also extremely friendly to you, save for if you approach a forbidden area atop a mountain. The game does a fantastic job at fleshing out the strange island and the culture of the blue-skinned people, which helps hold up its flagging gameplay.

The game plays out like a traditional point-and-click adventure game, with you clicking on where you want to go, clicking on people to talk to them and clicking on items that you want to recover. This game is a lot more narrative-focused than most of these kind of games, and there are barely any puzzles.

With one exception - there is a secret ending. To access it, you need to solve a complex puzzle, but the reveal and the implications are well worth it, if only for the chills that it will send down your spine.

All in all, Acrophile is an incredibly unique game that everybody should check out.
