Tower Defense games have generally fallen out of favor in the mainline gaming industry in the 21st century. There are very few tower defense games in the AAA market, and even if they're there, it's usually as part of a gimmick or a minigame. Thus, Flash games have had time to refine and innovate on the formula by themselves. The Bloons Tower Defense series is probably the best example of this innovation. Let's look at GemCraft Labryinth.

To play GemCraft Labryinth, simply run the game with whatever SWF player you have.

The story is a little more convoluted than before, and not that interesting frankly. The gist is you have to explore a labryinth to stop a calamity. 

The gameplay is still very much the same and shares the same core winning gameplay formula. You still have to combine gems to create towers that combine the effects of all the previous ones as well as developing your skills to be able to enhance your abilities during each level. 

Where this installment changes things is how much grinding you have to do. If you keep playing straight through, you'll quickly find that your towers are too expensive and you need a bunch more skill points, forcing you to go back to previous levels to grind constantly.

That holds it back from being a true delight like its predecessors, but GemCraft Labryinth is still a fantastic time on its own.
